Wood Stove Cleaning
If you own a wood heating stove, you probably know how important it is to keep the appliance clean and operating at peak efficiency. Stoves that are neglected but used regularly eventually will become unsafe to operate.
Fire N’ Stone of Tilton, NH, helps our customers keep their free-standing wood stoves in great shape. We do this in several ways.
Wood Heating Stove Cleaning
Wood creates smoke when burned, and that smoke leaves a residue called creosote in the firebox and the vent pipe. Over time, creosote can build up to the point that it not only impedes drafting but also presents a significant fire hazard.
Creosote is highly flammable and is the cause of most chimney and stove-vent fires every year. Because you usually don’t see creosote as it accumulates, it’s easy to forget about it as it continues to build.
Our stove-cleaning technicians are designated through the Chimney Safety Institute of America (CSIA) as Certified Chimney Sweeps. This designation means the individual has proven expertise in properly servicing all types of venting systems for home heating appliances including wood- and pellet-burning stoves.
Clearing Your Stove of Drafting Obstructions
In addition to the removal of creosote, we also clean out any obstructions in your chimney. Depending on where you live and how your stove pipe is set up, obstructions could include leaves, twigs, falling fruit and other tree debris as well as the nesting material of very small animals who for some reason like getting into stove pipes and chimneys.
These obstructions can cause smoke and dangerous toxins such as carbon monoxide to back up into your home. Carbon monoxide is a particular concern as it is invisible and odorless yet is known to be potentially fatal to humans and animals.
When we clean heating stoves, we remove obstructions and creosote from the vent pipe and clean the firebox as well. A thorough cleaning should be performed once a year to reduce the risk of fire and keep your wood or pellet stove running safely and correctly.
Stove Inspections & Repair
Along with stove cleaning, we offer complete inspections that let you know about early signs of damage or malfunction. As with ongoing creosote buildup, structural problems usually progress to the point that major work is needed to resolve the issue – this means major work and an expense, hence the importance of inspections.
By having your heating stove inspected once a year (typically at the same time as cleaning), you’ll be able to schedule any repairs that might be necessary before the damage becomes a serious issue.
When repairs are needed for your stove, the Fire N’ Stone team is ready to solve the problem. We repair all makes and models of wood heating stoves.
Schedule Your Stove Cleaning
Our technicians offer chimney services year-round, but the best time to schedule cleaning work is in the spring or summer. We’re typically not as busy during these seasons and can more likely make the visit when it’s convenient within your schedule.
